In the heart of Asia’s Silicon Valley, a new coffee bar has opened up to cater to the taste of young techies populating the growing industrial zone in Shenzhen.

Area: 80 sq.m.

Location: Shenzhen, China

Status: Completed in 2016

The BLEND logo is an alteration of a coffee bean, or to be more precise, two halves of different coffee beans, made clearly visible from the entrance, in the design of the door handle. This complementary image reflects the specialty of the brand – blending Ethiopian and Tanzanian coffee beans to create a unique taste. Amidst an atmosphere marked by innovation, BLEND hopes to draw those still seeking a familiar taste that never gets old.

Based on its location and the young demographic of the area, BLEND was intentionally designed in line with the principles of the icon of clean design in the tech industry – Apple. This led us to design BLEND’s visual identity and interior with a minimalist approach. Materials were chosen to echo a familiar vibe as when a customer enters the Apple store. Aluminum panels and light wood provide a perfect backdrop blending cold and warm tones, with black furniture and red coffee cups adding bold finishes.

Lit beneath a grid of sixty-four lamps, the bar area sits right in the center of the shop, forming a cubical space made entirely of metal. The gray of concrete floor comes out from under the bar counter just enough for a customer to stand, creating a visual indicator for where to line up to make an order.
